LAUNCH OF ANTI NUKE MOVEMENT IN COIMBATORE

Several anti-nuke activists representing several Political parties, Tamil Nationalist Movements, Organisation for Dalit Rights and Human Rights Organisations launched collectively an An Anti Nuke Movement in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu on 25th November 2011.

The meeting included representatives from Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Naam Tamizhar Katchi, Dalit Viduthalai Katchi,  Tamil Desiya Podhuvudamai Katchi, Tamizhar Viduthalai Iyakkam, Revolutionary Youth Front, Revolutionary Workers Front, Tamil Desiya Makkal Kazhagam, Tamizh Maindar Mandram, Konangal Film Soceity, CALIBRE (An Organisation for the Physically Challenged), CPI (ML), KOPMA, PUCL, Coimbatore and several Social Activists.

The meeting deliberated on the issue and decided to launch a concerted campaign against the dangers of nuclear plants and cultivate awareness regarding Energy Management Resources and Alternative Sources of Energy, pursuing people-centric and sustainable developmental model.

The meeting nominated Ku. Ramakrishnan, the General Secretary of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Pon.Chandran, PUCL, Coimbatore as Joint Coordinators of the Movement.

TWO WHEELER RALLY

A Two-wheeler Rally will start from Coimbatore on 1st December 2011 to Koodankulam to express our solidarity with the struggling people of Idinthakarai.  The Rally will distribute handbills, conduct street corner meetings and presents skits, in several centres on its way, wherever feasible, including Pollachi, Udumalaipettai, Palani, Oddanchathiram, Dindigul, Vadipatti, Madurai, Thirumangalam, Virudhunagar, Saathur, Kovilpatti, Kayatharu and Tirunelveli and reach Koodankulam on 2nd December 2011.

WORKSHOP ON THE DANGERS OF NUCLEAR OPTIONS

A workshop on various dimensions of Nuclear Options and the need to explore Alternative Energy Sources will be conducted on 29th November 2011 at Periyar Padippagam, Coimbatore as a prelude to those who will participate in the Rally.
